Middle School Level
Once students transition to the middle school, the ACP process continues to build on the foundation provided at the elementary level. At each grade level, students will practice goal setting and planning by developing and/ or revising their personal Academic & Career Plan with guidance from adult mentors (staff, counselors, parents). Middle school students participate in annual career fairs and industry tours based on their identified interests with surveys to monitor outcomes. We also incorporate citizenship grading. Our middle school plan shows what we do each year to ensure our students are prepared based on the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction's scope & sequence within the Xello program.
- Junior Achievement - JA It’s My Future (Grade 6): JA It’s My Future provides practical information about preparing for the working world. Through the business volunteer’s help, students learn about career clusters, high-growth jobs, career planning, and creating a personal brand. And, through a scavenger hunt, they are introduced to the basic aspects of job hunting.
- Junior Achievement - JA Economics for Success (Grade 7): JA Economics for Success gives students the information needed to build strong personal finances, a cornerstone to a happy, secure life. Through the business person’s help, students learn the importance of exploring career options based on their skills, interests, and values. They also learn about spending money within a budget; saving and investing wisely; and using credit cautiously.
- Jay Talk (Grade 8): In the spring of the school year, students have their individual middle school conferences with their school counselor and parents. A discussion includes career exploration findings from the past three years and planning for their courses at the high school.
