Pine River School for Young Learners strongly believes that parents are the most important influence on a child’s development. Families are encouraged to be involved in all areas of the program. Our school has an open door policy and families are always welcome. There are many different ways to be involved in the program:
- Visit your child anytime at school, whether just stopping to say “hi” or staying for lunch. Please call ahead if you plan to join us for lunch. Come and learn through play with us.
- Policy Council - the Federal government mandates that Head Start parents have a strong voice in the policy and decision making of the program. The Policy Council is the governing body of Head Start (much like the School Board is for Merrill Area Public Schools). The Policy Council is made of nine members: two parents from last year, five parents from this year’s class (one being the President of the Parent Committee), and two community representatives (one from the MAPS School Board). Attending Policy Council meetings is one way to make your voice heard. These meetings are held once a month.
- Parent Committee Meetings - these meetings are open to all parents. The parents that attend these meetings make decisions and plan family activities. Meetings are usually held once a month or as often as needed to plan future activities. These meetings are great ways to meet new people and make lasting friendships while getting involved in your child’s school.
- Teacher Conferences - these times are important to share information between home and school so that we can be an effective learning team. Conferences are held twice a year (usually in October and in May). You may also request a meeting with your child’s teacher at any time throughout the year - just give us a call.
