Hail to the Blue, Hail to the White,
and Welcome Silver M
Homecoming is a big deal in Merrill and we have managed to hang on to many of our traditions over the years that make this event a fun and memorable experience for the students of MHS and the entire community. One of the reasons that Homecoming is so popular here is that, unlike many places, people actually come "home" for Homecoming in Merrill--thanks, in part, to the Silver M Club.
The Merrill Silver M is a group that started years ago as a way for football letter-winners to stay connected after high school and to celebrate the common bond they all share. Twenty five years after someone receives their first varsity football letter they are eligible for induction to the Silver M Club. In addition, 50 years after receiving their first football letter they become Golden M'ers and after 75 years can become Diamond M'ers. Each year, large numbers of Silver M Club members return to Merrill during Homecoming to reconnect with old friends and support the Bluejays.
The Silver M Club is more than a social club however. Each year, the Silver M hosts a golf tournament the provides scholarship opportunities to MHS students and the Club has helped support Bluejay football in a variety of ways each year; from purchasing equipment for the team to working as "chain gang" members during sub-varsity football games.
As both the principal of MHS and as a Silver M'er myself, I value what this group means to Merrill Football, MHS and the entire Merrill Community. We are very fortunate to have such a unique organization in our community and such strong supporters of Merrill Football. Go Bluejays!
