24-25 Boys Basketball Team

The High School Boys’ Basketball teams start their season on the 2nd Monday in November, and conclude for JV and JV2 by the end of February. The varsity’s season includes the playoffs and which can go into the middle of March for the State Tournament at the Kohl Center in Madison.

Players who want to participate in basketball are required to attend the "Player Meeting" as well as have a parent or guardian attend the "Family Meeting," both of which are held the week prior to the start of the tryouts. 2-A-Day Tryouts for the high school teams are held the first three days of the season. These practices are held both before school (6-7:30AM) as well as after school (3:15-5:15PM). Players must attend ALL tryout dates to be considered, but are NOT guaranteed a spot on any team.

The JV2 team will place priority on being filled with freshmen for the future of the program. If a full JV2 team (13-15 players) is not fielded, ONLY THEN may it be added to by older class players who did not make the JV or Varsity team.

Three Jays Earn All Conference Honors

Three Merrill players earned All Conference honors this season. Bailey Turenne was a unanimous 1st Team choice by the coaches. Bailey had one of the best seasons in school history as he set the school record for points per game 22.8 (overall) and 23.1 ppg in conference play, he also averaged over 12 rebounds per game and 5 assists per game as well. Bailey was a walking double double this year for Coach Pieper. Bailey led the conference in rebounding and finished second in the Valley in scoring. Juniors Troy Mootz (12 ppg) and Bradyn Pieper (11 ppg) also were Honorable Mention choices by the coaches. Troy and Bradyn both averaged double figures this season and were reliable options for the Jays. Coach Pieper commented on the three players,

"I am proud of all three of the guys for getting recognition this year, these are three of the hardest workers in the program, it's nice to see hard work pay off, all three of them put in a lot of time outside of our scheduled practices both in the weight room and in the gym on their own to become the best they can be, also all three are awesome role models off the court as well, three very deserving young men and I'm proud to be their coach".
