How to Enroll in Merrill Area Public Schools

Thank you for your interest in Merrill Area Public Schools.

Directions for Merrill Residents:

Skyward New Student Online Enrollment is used to enroll all students interested in attending MAPS.

• Please note that in order for your child to attend the MAPS 4K program, in the 2024-2025 school year, they must be four years of age on or before September 1, 2024.   MAPS 4K is a free public school four year old pre-kindergarten program offered through the Merrill Area Public Schools.  To register for the MAPS 4K program, please complete the New Student Online Enrollment application in Skyward.  
   
• Merrill Area Public Schools also offers a Head Start program for low income children who are three to five years old and qualify for Head Start.  For Head Start applications, please complete the Skyward New Student Online Enrollment.  We will contact you on how to complete the qualifications for Head Start including the income verification.
   
• In order for your child to attend kindergarten, in the 2024-2025 school year, they must be five years of age on or before September 1, 2024. State law requires children to attend kindergarten prior to first grade.
   
• If you are already a parent/guardian of a MAPS student, please visit Skyward Family Access to enroll any additional students needing to attend the district.  Specific directions can be found here.
   
• If your family is new to Merrill Area Public Schools, click here to begin the enrollment process.  Specific directions can be found here.

• Legal names, phone numbers, and addresses of any parents/guardians, along with emergency contacts will be needed when completing this process. You will be able to save your progress and return at a later time if necessary.

Directions for Non-Residents:

• Merrill Area Public Schools participates in the Wisconsin Open Enrollment Program, in which residents can apply to attend a district other than the one in which they reside.  Open Enrollment Applications can be submitted by parents / guardians not residing in the Merrill School District who would like to enroll their student(s) at a school in the Merrill School District, including Bridges Virtual Academy.

• The Alternative Open Enrollment application period for the 2024-2025 school year is open and will remain open through the duration of the school year.  Applications are available to be completed online with the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.   Completed applications can be returned to the Merrill Area Public Schools Enrollment Secretary, Sarah Fuchs,  via email at sarah.fuchs@mapsedu.org; fax (715) 536-1788; or mailed to 1111 N. Sales St. Merrill, WI 54452.
